I am on day four of being away from my little one. Believe it or not time has gone by quickly, being busy all day with work helps. I got a chance to do a little "alone" shopping (shopping without a stroller and someone begging to go see the "toys"). My shopping trip was quick and easy and that is what made it so difficult. What I thought would be so enjoyable wasn't all I was hoping. Something was missing..... That stroller and little voice nagging me to go see the "toys" is what I live for. Tonight I had a chance to Skype with Javy and Abel. Abel didn't understand why Mommy was in the "puter". He sang a few songs, counted to 10 in Spanish then quickly said "Bye Bye Mommy" while waving his hands and turned to Daddy and said "Mickey Mouse on puter Daddy". I cried to think that Mickey Mouse was more interesting then Mommy singing "Baby Bumble Bee" hand motions and all. Especially after 4 days of not seeing Mommy. When Mickey Mouse is an option nobody wins, I won't take it personal :). Daddy is doing an amazing job as Mr. Mom for the week....here are just a few notable reasons he is such a great Daddy........per our conversations:
Javy: We went to the park today after daycare, don’t worry I bundled him up and he wore his hat.
Javy: I packed his lunch today with lunch meat turkey, applesauce, fishy noodles, and pancakes
Javy: He took a shower with me tonight since he hasn't had a bath since you left (4 days later...I haven't even asked if he has had his teeth brushed. Something’s are left better unknown).
Javy: He hasn't pooped in a couple of days should I go to the store and get some blueberries? Me: try some raisons. A text message less than an hour later...."he pooped". Great job Daddy! You’re the best and I miss you too!

At the Airport and miss my baby already!
We had a great morning.....slept in, ate pancakes and peanut butter and mommy drank lots of coffee :) It stormed last night so it was cold and wet out but that didn't stop us from getting a little baseball and racing my lighting McQueen around the garage. Early bathtime and lunch with mommy followed by a early nap. Mommy had to go to the airport before I even woke up :(
A Little fun outside :)
Finished up with Hot Cocco and the fireplace

Leaving my baby for the first time....an entire week :(
Ok Ok.....I should enjoy a week to myself right? Even if it is for work. I just can't get over the fact that I have never been away from Abel for more then one night.....much less an entire week in another state! I just finished packing for my trip to Arizona for training. It is pouring down rain here in NorCal and I am sure to get some beautiful weather in Phoenix. I will miss both Abel and Javy greatly but this will be good for me. I am looking forward to catching up with some old friends while I am there, doing some shopping and of course heading to work everyday. Mixed emotions.......I will enjoy myself!
By the way tough loss for the Niners today...so close to the Super Bowl :( At least one of us brought our game face....Payten's team got the win :)

I am horrible at this! I have told myself over and over again, it is not that difficult to write a post once a day. It doesn't have to be a big deal....just a couple of words on how I feel, think or updates on my baby. So here is my next attempt to keeping it short and simple. Today was a good day......rained all night Abel and I slept cozy in Mommy and Daddy's big bed. We had a lazy morning with Mickey Mouse pancakes for Abel and Coffee for Mommy. Played, ate and napped. All of us got a good little nap in :). Took a trip to the mall and played with Mickey at the Disney store and a fun little ride on the merry go round. Again....today was a good day :)

and the other side of 2011...........
My previous post shares all of the wonderful and great things that took place in 2011. I wanted so badly to include so much more of 2011 in that post, however I found myself holding back our worries of last year and focusing on all of the good. It is important for me to separate the two, simply to realize and remember what a great year we had learning and growing as a family. As I shared previously with all of the great came our handful of challenges. It all started in January; just like most kids Abel had been sick through the winter months. Unlike most kids though he didn't recover as quickly and we soon found ourselves wondering "is this normal?" Is it normal for my 1 year old to get a cough that doesn't go away for 6 weeks? Is it normal to be up all night with him coughing so horribly that he is throwing up? Is it normal to have a fever of 104 degrees every couple of weeks with no other symptoms? Is it normal that he hasn't gained weight in 5 months? If you asked our first Doctor he would have told you "Yes" and that I was a crazy first time mother. I didn't buy that first time "Crazy" mother crap....and soon found another Doctor, and thank God I did. One visit with our new Doctor and a set of lung x-rays she discovered that Abel had been suffering from pneumonia for god knows how long. I was amazed and thankful at her quick diagnosis! Great news....antibiotics will kick in rather quickly and in 10 days we can put this all behind us! WRONG! 10 days come and go and Abel seems to be on the mend, however four weeks go by and we are back to square one. All of the before mentioned symptoms back again. Long story short we discovered our 2nd round of pneumonia in 2 months. By this time not only had we been in and out of the Doctors office on a regular basis, but we were now regulars at the ER. Not fun! With the 2nd diagnosis of pneumonia so close to the first our Doctor was hesitant to think it was coincidence. Abel was quickly diagnosed with Asthma and we also soon found ourselves in the hospital mid April with our 3rd round of pneumonia. By this point he had been on two 5 day rounds of prednisone and daily steroid inhalers to keep his lungs strong enough to fight the pneumonia. Our Doctor was optimistic that the Asthma was treatable but wanted to rule out anything more serious. By this point you could officially call me a "CRAZY and WORRIED" first time mother. Not only did we just spend a weekend in the hospital with my baby hooked up to monitors and oxygen, but we found ourselves taking him to be tested for Cystic Fibrosis. Patients with multiple cases of pneumonia and Asthma are strong cases for CF. Waiting for the results of this test was as long and painful as the time we spent in the NICU with him when he was born (another story all together). Fast-forward to our results and we are overjoyed to say that Abel has Asthma and that we can control. After all of the ER visits (5 to be exact), multiple X-rays (5 or 6 I lost count), the oxygen and breathing treatments; we have this under control. He still gets sick more often than we would like, we will still have our fair share of Doctor and ER visits.....but we can say we are VERY lucky. Abel is VERY lucky. He is strong and resilient. I am thankful for the 5 weeks off of work that I took to care for him, thankful for the 2 months off of work Javy was with him. Thankful for the healthy boy that we see today.

2011 A year to remember.....
Here is a recap of our roller coaster year. For starters I will remember 2011 as the year my baby began to grow into a little boy. Abel started walking right before the beginning of the year and running by January. This summer he started to talk with a few very silly words..."Hot Dog" was a favorite for a long time! He fell in love with the movie Toy Story in which he quotes Woody and Buzz daily, he spent many days out on the baseball field with Daddy watching him coach and clean up before and after games. Moving into the "toddler" class at school was a milestone. He is very fond of Ms. Kim and his friends Tasha and Braden (he still misses Ms. LaLa in the infant room and must say hello to her daily). This kid loves to learn! 18 months and saying all of his body parts, colors and many other things he amazes me every day! It only took a year and a half but he has finally made friends with Kitty! Kitty had to warm up to this little guy constantly grabbing his tail. Abels new job is to put Kitty in and out and feed him his treats. This year Christmas was the best! He loved Santa, Snowman (no-man), all the lights and the Christmas trees. Elf on a Shelf was a big hit for us, Abel naming our elf Chippy. Santa came early in the Valdivia house this year, we spent Christmas Eve at home......just the 3 of us. It was a great and relaxing day. We went to Santa Rosa for Christmas day and dinner, where Abel loved to show off his dance moves with Gramma and Boompa and his new guitar. The next day we spent in winters with Ito and Ita where Abel was introduced to his new big foot remote control car. What a great 3 days it was! Coming home soon after to celebrate my baby's 2nd birthday. It was a quiet birthday at home with Mommy and Daddy, with a quick trip to the fountains to ride the train and pop in the pet store to see the Kitties. With a birthday 2 days after Christmas it’s hard to plan much. There are so many more good times to recall, I wish I had a machine to freeze time and capture these memories in detail. My baby grows to be more and more his own little character every day. He is smart, loves to sing and dance, loves anything to do with sports, enjoys art, will talk your ear off if you let him and he knows how to tell you "NO". He is as fun loving and stubborn as they come. All of these great and challenging qualities wrapped up into 30 inches and 23 lbs of energy :) For all the fun times we had this year I will remember how incredibly lucky we are, because for each of these great things that happened this year, 2011 brought us a handfull of challenges. Challenges that created a lot of worry but in the end made us strong. Challenges that make us thankful for our happy and healthly little boy! Stay tuned for next post.....
